We’re delighted to have a lovely collection of artwork for sale by artist Angela Emsen-West. Here she gives an insight into how she approaches each painting.

‘My style varies, sometimes immensely, I find that subject and mood depict the styles and colours that I use. I am sure I would find it difficult to be consistently habitual with an obviously definable style with every painting I undertook…

Angela started painting full time after serious illness in 2000. “Illness gets you thinking about the normal things in life, why I don’t know, but it does. Possibly because time stands still giving you the chance to see. I got to thinking about what is around me and how beautiful ordinary everyday objects are and why I have never seen them as beautiful objects before now.” So, she started to paint them, bread and butter, jam pots etc all everyday objects in her home…

Empty Easel

Angela lives in Ireland, has been painting full-time for over ten years, and has exhibited her work across the United Kingdom, Ireland and Europe…

After the initial giggles dispersed (I blame the hot whiskey), the entire class settled into a quiet reverie as we practiced the easy techniques Angela taught us. As someone who has never been one for mindfulness, I found the afternoon infinitely more relaxing than the average yoga class... and much more fun.

Insisting we pull over, so I can take the first of dozens (maybe hundreds) of pictures, we miss our turn-off for Ashford Lodge. But after a few turns around the estate, we settle into our lakeview suite and retire early in anticipation of an activity-filled day.

After a pancake breakfast in the elegant Wilde's restaurant, we hop in specially-upholstered Ashford Castle Range Rovers to the equestrian centre to collect bikes. Our gentle guided tour takes us through the

I am a water colour artist who also works with pencils and polychromos pencils. I live in the west of Ireland County Mayo. My art aims to please and to help the viewer see the regular things that we miss through the busy fast pace of modern life. We all try so hard to achieve and rush around yearning for the things that are just out of reach so we don't take the time to stop and enjoy what is already around us in our daily lives. I paint these objects so I can see the beauty of the simple things within my home environment…
